This exhibition will examine contemporary portraiture photography. Photographic portraiture often displays the expression, personality and mood of the subject. Pose and Gesture, Image and Identity, Constructed Narrative, Self Portrait, Environmental, Persona, Documentary, Vernacular and Snapshot, Fashion and Nude, all have visual arguments to make in the world of portraiture photography.

The competition is designed to give visibility to “decent architecture”, to micro-urban interventions in any city in the world planned to respond to a demand or explicit need of a population or community, whether in poor areas of western cities, or in the shanty towns of Africa, Asia or Latin America.
The project may address one or more of the following needs:
practical every day problems of survival and or sanitation
the removal of physical, social or symbolic barriers
mobility and communication across the city
opportunities for social inclusion/education or aggregation at a local level
the re-appropriation of public space favouring new connections and new uses
innovative ideas in reinterpreting public space as place
issues limiting the quality of life of the inhabitants of a specific area
Awards:
A shortlist of 10 projects, chosen by a Selection Panel of distinguished architects, artists, university teachers and urban planners will be exhibited from 27 August to 1 September 2012 at Magazzini del Sale, Punta della Dogana, Venice, Italy, during the XIII Architecture Biennial of Venice, and will be included in a catalogue.
The winner of the ‘First Future Cities Award’ will be selected by members of the Selection Panel and announced at the exhibition opening on 27 August.

Microphotography reveals a world unseen by the naked eye. It often exposes patterns and designs that create sublime abstract images. Macrophotography gathers a view often larger and grander than can be gathered with the human eye. Both introduce distortions either through lens characteristics or stitching construction techniques that are creative tools used to produce these distinctive images.

Every photograph tells a story. When part of a body of work, the photograph takes on a new meaning, becoming part of a bigger and more complete narrative. A portfolio allows the photographer to explore the complexities of their subject, and provide context that gives it richness and meaning that is more than the sum of its parts.

Eight photographers will be selected for the exhibition, split into two shows. The first four will show from June 6 - July 14, the other four will show from July 18 - August 25.
All eight photographers and artist statements will be reproduced in an exhibition catalogue available for purchase.
